Students of MI: Johnny
“I really didn’t think I’d transfer to OU… until my campus tour. The ambassador at the time really opened up my eyes about OU’s unique culture and campus. There weren’t any cliques or boundaries on campus. Everyone got along with each other, faculty knew students’ names, more than 300 student organizations that I didn’t think a university would have, and the amazing commute! I attended a Transfer Student Open House and it really changed my mind on how to choose a school that best represented me as an individual. I didn’t want to go to a big school to just be another number — I wanted a school that’s like a small community.
I’m currently a brother of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, and I was the Brotherhood Director last year. Now, I’m currently their Vice President of Alumni and Family Relations. I’m also a Human Resource Development major and was an HR co-op student at DTE Energy. I love that HRD will allow me to work in a business setting and help others at the same time.
While at OU, I’ve gained leadership, public speaking, and collaboration skills. I learned that to be a successful student, you have to put yourself out there. Just starting a conversation with someone you don’t know or presenting in front of a class will give you confidence and help prepare you for the future.”
