Anne, Marketing
“I love being able to walk through the University Center here at UM-Dearborn and know everyone’s faces. Just feeling like I belong here has been really great. And being able to have a one-on-one relationship with my professors has really been awesome as well. Relationships with professors helps you not only further succeed in classes, but it also helps you develop professional relationships and potentially get internships or other practical experiences out of college.”
Jalen, Electrical Engineering
“UM-Dearborn has a personal feel on campus—it’s really like a family. That’s why I wanted to come to this smaller institution, and how I was able to get involved on campus and do great things. No matter where you go, you will grow to love the institution that you’re at if you give yourself the opportunity to do so.”
Jordan, Political Science
“What drove me to the University of Michigan-Dearborn was the idea that I can make a difference. I could join a student organization and get active on campus immediately. Not only was this a smaller campus community that I could be an integral component of, but it was still the University of Michigan and the value here is great. Coming here was a clear and obvious choice for me.”
Karina, Hispanic Studies
“For me, high school was the beginning of experiencing people from different cultural backgrounds in the same classroom. Looking at my college options, UM-Dearborn was the school that offered a similar experience and diverse campus. You see people from all different parts of the world come together as one and work towards the same goal.”
Kaylin, Communications
“I wasn’t expecting to fit in at UM-Dearborn, but from talking to people here who are also not from the Dearborn area I discovered that it’s really easy to find a group of friends, and to venture out from what you’re comfortable with.”
Marwa, Software Engineering
“UM-Dearborn has so many clubs and activities that can make you feel connected on campus. Something that really makes me feel at home here is my involvement in student government. I look up to everyone there, I love the meetings and discussions, and we consider ourselves a family. Besides that, I try to be involved in a lot of things. I’m the secretary of our student government, the president of the Institute of Software Engineers and a member of the Opportunity Scholarship program.”
Rosa, Accounting, Finance, and Spanish
“When I moved to the University of Michigan Dearborn, I noticed the diversity I saw in high school on a larger scale. And it wasn’t just kids with different religions, or different races, there were students from all over the world. You are able to gain a large global view at UM-Dearborn, which is something that’s really great.”
Syed, Philosophy
“I’ve really enjoyed my professors in addition to the administration while being here. Professor Benjamin Phillips is my calculus two teacher now, and I really enjoy his class – which is something I would never expect myself to say about calculus. The class itself is fun, and he’s a great teacher that leaves you with a legitimate understanding of how to solve a problem, where the solution was derived, and the methodology behind solving the equation.”
