Oakland University

Located in Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills, Oakland University aims to impact Michigan and the world through education, research, scholarship and creativity. OU offers 130 undergraduate degree programs and 135 graduate programs. Using its motto, “Seek virtue and knowledge,” OU has unlocked the potential of individuals and created leaders since its establishment in 1957.

“I felt like I was a Golden Grizzly before I was even accepted. Oakland University made me feel like I was at home, which stood out to me. College for me was a chance to explore my interests in photography and digital media, but to also find and better understand myself.”

It’s not a huge school and everything is in close proximity to each other, so it’s easy to get to classes. I also love how tight knit the community is here at Oakland, every time I walk to class, I see 5-10 people I know.”

“I came to Oakland on a tour as a high school senior, and my uncle took me to the multicultural initiatives office to introduce myself and see what they had to offer Hispanic students. I never filled out a form, I literally just had a conversation with them. About a week before I had to decide on what school to attend, I got a letter in the mail from them indicating that I received an additional scholarship through their office. I knew when I got to Oakland I wouldn’t just fall into the crowd. I could set myself apart and create my own opportunities.”

I love experiencing new things and taking in as much as I can to really learn about other people, and how to individualize your behavior towards other people.”

“I chose Oakland University because it was close to my home, and I’m very close to my family. I also chose it for their honors college, which really excited me. I was very surprised by the amount of resources that we have at Oakland. I was a commuter my first two years, and it wasn’t until my second year that I really got involved on campus. I realized that we have so many resources to help students excel, so I decided to work for the new student orientation programs.”
